Helen has managed the Whitsunday office since 1994 and is the first point of contact for most clients. She has achieved a high level of loss adjusting and insurance qualifications in recent years (ANZIIF - Senior Associate and CIP, and Member of the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters.) Our business was originally established in 1992 and the founding principal, Des Ward, is still involved in the day to day operations. Darren Simmonds joined the business in 2004 and is now responsible for most of our vessel survey activities.
Des has nearly 40 years experience as a marine superintendent and surveyor, with his experience gained originally in Europe and the Caribbean before settling in Queensland some 30 years ago. His particular area of expertise is risk management, casualty investigation and marine underwriter services – especially in remote areas. Des is an MSQ accredited marine surveyor and he is also a private pilot and aircraft owner which can facilitate our prompt attendance at serious casualties at reasonable cost.
Darren started his career with 9 years in the Royal Australian Navy and went on to gain experience in ferry operations and “white” boats in Europe and North America. As a qualified shipwright Darren’s knowledge of construction and repair techniques and vessel refitting is of considerable value to his career as a surveyor. Darren is very much a hands on surveyor and is at the front line of most of our hull claims. Darren is an MSQ/AMSA accredited marine surveyor and is also a non-exclusive surveyor to the Cook Islands Ship Registry.
